environmental effects of sports surfacesThe Sports Surface Conference in Beijing, on May 29th 2008 was dealing with the topic of environmental effects of sport surfaces, usually constructed with synthetic surface systems such as artificial turf or synthetic surfaces, which are not environmentally neutral.

The results of the “Investigation into the behavior of synthetic sports surfaces exposed to natural weather conditions” reflect the conditions in Switzerland, Germany and Austria based on the typical synthetic sports surface products used in this sector.

The Swiss study provided a positive determination that organic pollutants occur in minimal amounts only so, that from an environmental point of view, no real risks exist when State of Technology rules are followed.
